When I went on the Paleo Diet, I decided to buy some Paleo rubs and seasonings. The only ones I could find had no sugar, but some of these like Jamaican Jerk need some sweetness. Creating a Jamaican Jerk with coconut and maple sugars was my first Paleo seasoning.

On a trip to New Mexico several years ago, I discovered red Hatch chiles and they became my favorite chile pepper. So my next Paleo rub used ground red Hatch chiles, which is known as molido. My Chile Molido provides many layers of Southwest flavor and, like my Jamaican Jerk, comes in three heat levels.

I was sad to see the end of the Minneapolis Ribfests that were held downtown and had great bands, pig races and a very serious rib competition. These got me interested in making my own regional rubs like Memphis, Texan and Kansas City. Since Texan has no sugar and Kansas City requires a BBQ sauce besides the rub, Memphis-style seemed the best choice for a Paleo version.

Many of us on the Paleo Diet eat a lot of nuts since they are a good source of healthy fat and protein. While raw nuts are the healthiest, for those of us with a sweet tooth it’s nice to have a sweet alternative. Because I think that all sweet can be too much of a good thing, I made my roasted nuts a little spicy as well.

New in 2019 is a Vegan version of these nuts that replaces the organic butter with organic coconut oil, making them both Vegan and Paleo.

Reinvention of Twisted Paleo

As many of you know, I was really excited about moving to the Minneapolis Farmers Market this spring and offering samples of my rubs on different meats and Vegan meat subs, as well as samples of my Paleo and Vegan Sweet and Spicy Nuts. Providing samples is an important part of selling my products, but because it’s not safe this year to do sampling at the markets, I decided I wanted to do something different this year.

It was always my plan to eventually sell Paleo baked goods, which I'm allowed to do as a certified Cottage Food Producer, and it seemed that this was the time to do it. But I don’t want to offer only Paleo items. What I’ve discovered is that many of my baked goods are also Mediterranean, Keto and/or Vegan or can be with a few modifications. And all my baked goods fall under one or more types of a Vegetarian Diet, such as Lacto, Ovo or Lacto/ovo. Something else all my baked goods have in common is that they are gluten free and most ingredients are organic.

Twisted Paleo Cottage Bakery
I announced on the Twisted Paleo Facebook page in early November that I had decided to delay the opening of my cottage bakery until a vaccine is available.  I cannot take any risks with the health of my customers or my own. Because I was in the process of adding my baked goods to the Products page, I could not post this here until I was ready to hit Publish, and today is the day! I've been building my website on my iMac and my columns on the Products page look perfect with each product description inline with its photo in the second column. But I discovered this is not going to be the case when going to a smaller screen. The fix for this is to install a column lock app, but since I need to go to my farm for a few days, this will take me a while. My apologies for this but I didn't want to delay publishing any longer.

I decided to start with Paleo cookies and muffins, including some that are both Paleo and Vegan.  I'm currently working on holiday cookies which I will be adding to the website as I complete them. In 2021 I will be adding cakes, brownies, cupcakes, breads, tarts, doughnuts, candies, etc. Also on the agenda for 2021 is the addition of some Keto baked goods.
